DEKALB, Illinois – Iowa State (5-2, 3-1 Big 12) defeated the Northern Illinois Huskies and the Illinois State Redbirds Friday night at the Convocation Center with its highest overall score this season. The Cyclones scored a 196.575 to top the Huskies (195.500) and the Redbirds (194.650).
Once again Addy De Jesus had a career night, reaching career highs on beam, bars, and in the all-around. De Jesus' all-around score of 39.575 is tied for the fifth-best in Iowa State history. The Cyclones also saw career high performances from a number of other gymnasts. Loganne Basuel and Meixi Semple both earned 9.900s to hit career highs on the bars and beam. Phoebe Turner set either a career or season high on all of her events.
"We had a great start tonight," head coach Jay Ronayne said. "Being able to start a meet away from home as relaxed as they were was nice to see. The performance tonight was exactly what we were looking for. The start on beam set the tone for the night and the girls really just kept their composure."
Vault
Iowa State didn't slow down as they hit the vault, scoring a season high 49.250. Addy De Jesus led the scoring with a 9.900 to take the event win. Closely following were Makayla Maxwell and Kelsey Boychuk, who earned scores of 9.875 and 9.850 respectively. Phoebe Turner and Sophia Steinmeyer rounded out the scoring for the Cyclones with matching 9.825s.
Balance Beam
The Cyclones started off hot on the balance beam, earning a season-high score of 49.225. Meixi Semple won the event and set a new career high with a score of 9.900. Also earning career highs were Addy De Jesus and Phoebe Turner, who posted matching scores of 9.875. Sophia Steinmeyer notched a 9.825, and Makayla Maxwell scored a 9.750 to round out the scorers.
Uneven Bars
Iowa State finished strong on the bars, notching a total score of 49.150. Addy De Jesus won the event with a career high score of 9.925. Loganne Basuel closely followed with a career high 9.900. Madelyn Langkamp posted a 9.825 and Jade Vella-Wright earned a 9.800. Makayla Maxwell finished up the scoring with a 9.700.
Floor Exercise
The Cyclones kept the positive momentum rolling, posting a score of 49.050 on the floor. Maddie Diab tied her season high and took the event win with a score of 9.900. Addy De Jesus closely followed with her second 9.875 of the night. Kelsey Boychuk notched a 9.825 to tie her career high. Reaching her second career high of the night was Phoebe Turner, who earned a 9.750 for her routine. Rounding out the scoring was Madelyn Langkamp with a 9.700.
All-Around
Addy De Jesus was the lone all-arounder for Iowa State, scoring a 39.575 to pick up the event win and set a new career high.
