TEMPE, Ariz. – Iowa State (10-15, 4-10 Big 12) fell in three to No. 9 Arizona State (27-2, 15-1 Big 12) Thursday night. The Sun Devils, who stand atop the Big 12 standings, won their 15th straight match by set scores of 25-21, 25-15, 25-20.
Tierney Jackson and Rachel Van Gorp each had an errorless four kills in the first set to keep competitive in the first set, leading as late as 20-19, but ASU responded to win the opening frame. After Arizona controlled the second set, Iowa State stayed close with the home team in the third but could not extend the match. ISU was outhit .248-.142 on the night.
Jackson hit her first seven kills without an error on 10 attempts, going on to record 10 at a .562 clip to lead the Cyclones. A trio of Cyclones ended with double-figure digs, led by Brooke Stonestreet with 14. Emily Bobbitt had 12 digs to go along with 16 assists for her second double-double, while Van Gorp joined in double figures with 10.
Jackson and Lilly Wachholz led the Cyclone block with three each, while Jackson passed 200 career blocks on the night. Morgan Brandt and Maya Duckworth also hit milestones totaling 600 and 500 career digs, respectively.
SET ONE
Kiersten Schmitt put down kills for the Cyclones' first two points to make it 3-2, ASU, early on. Wachholz followed to also put down a pair on two swings and put up a solo block next as ISU took a lead at 6-5. Iowa State remained up at 10-8, but ASU hit a run of four to go back ahead. The Cyclones answered with two kills to tie it back up, while ties at 13s and 14s followed. A Sun Devil block gave the home team the narrow 15-14 lead at the media timeout, but Van Gorp sent over two kills out of the timeout on the way to a 17-16 lead. Jackson would total her fourth kill at an errorless .800 hitting to keep ISU up 20-19, but Arizona State hit a run of four to lead 23-20 late to cause an Iowa State timeout. Maya Duckworth fought off set point with a kill but ASU would take the set next at 25-21.
SET TWO
Wachholz and Pam McCune teamed up for a huge block putting ISU up 3-2, while the Cyclones held the lead at 6-3 after an ASU attack error. The home team came back to knot it at 8s, but Jackson's sixth kill on nine attempts put ISU ahead 9-8. Arizona State took the next four, while the Cyclones came back within one at 12-11. The Sun Devils hit another scoring spree to lead 17-12 as ISU called a timeout. A successful ASU challenge would reverse the score from 17-13 to 18-12, and Arizona State would go on to take the set 25-15.
SET THREE
After a 3-3 tie, Arizona State ran ahead 7-3 as ISU called an early timeout. Iowa State stopped the run out of the break as Wachholz found the floor. Wachholz put down another, and Duckworth served up an ace to trim the deficit to one (7-6). An ace by Stonestreet was then confirmed to come within a pair (10-8) after ASU unsuccessfully challenged the call. Iowa State kept up with the home team as Jackson totaled her 10th kill to make the scoreboard read 13-12. A McCune kill tied it up at 14s, while the sophomore remained hot hitting another two to follow, giving Iowa State a 16-15 lead. ASU took the lead right back and at 21-20, the home team took the next three. A successful ISU challenge kept the match going, but the sweep would be sealed at 25-22.

Iowa State now heads to Tucson to meet Arizona Saturday, Nov. 23 at 3 p.m. CT. ISU returns home Nov. 27 and Nov. 29 to close the Big 12 schedule.
