FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The Cyclones finish day four of conference championships with three finalists and multiple records broken.
Head Coach Matt Leach is happy with the performance from the Cyclone squad. "With another great day of racing, we find ourselves neck and neck with West Virginia and we are continuing to swim well across the board," Leach said. "Today we had some great performances in the 200 fly, the 100 breaststroke and the 100 backstroke."
200 Fly
Winter Craig continued her dominance in the 200 fly with a qualifying time of 2:01.16 and a 15th place finish after earning a spot at finals.
Sophie Schmitz placed 23rd and secured her best time since joining the Cyclones ahead of the season (2:02.62). She moved herself to sixth on the all-time top performer's list in the event.
100 Breast
The freshmen breaststroke duo came to compete at the Big 12 Championships, and they delivered.
Rookie Grace Swoboda led the Cyclone squad with a personal best time of 2:01.02, setting the freshman record and earned the title of third-best performer on the all-time top performer's list. She ended in 12th place and earned an NCAA B-Cut for her performance.
Anja Peck earned a personal best in the event and placed 27th with a time of 1:02.64, narrowly missing the finals. Her time tied for fourth on the Cyclone all-time freshman records.
100 Back
Emma Kuhn led the group of Cyclones with a 27th place, also narrowly missing finals. She secured her second-best time of the season with a 55.45.
Madi Dohrn followed in 34th with a time of 56.04, a season best.
200 Free Relay
The relay group of Andie Quirke, Grace Swoboda, Carley Caughron and Lydia McClugage placed 9th with a time of 1:32.83.
"We're excited to work hard tomorrow to try and solidify our place in the Big 12. Go Cyclones!" Leach emphasized.
