LAWRENCE, Kan. – Iowa State took a narrow defeat to Kansas, 181-117, despite three top-10 performer records.
Head Coach Matt Leach was excited about the performance. "The cyclones stepped up today with 3 top ten times in the pool and more zone cuts on the boards," Leach said. "Across the board we had great energy and leadership. The atmosphere within this family has changed and it has been great to see each person grow."
How it Happened
The Cyclones started strong with a personal best and seventh-best performer in history in the 1000 free as Mallory Miller took gold with a 10:06.39 time.
Rookie Grace Swoboda placed first in the 100 breast, earning a personal best, a second-best freshmen time and a sixth-best performer spot in history with a time of 1:01.57. Anja Peck followed in fourth with a season best time of 1:03.66.
Winter Craig took her fifth win in the 200 fly this season with a time of 2:02.42.
Lydia McClugage secured second place in the 50 free with a time of 23.70, while Andie Quirke followed closely with a season-best 23.83.
Quirke took fourth in the 100 free with a season best time of 52.01 and a personal best from Fallon DeWitt with a fifth-place time of 52.42.
Peck and Swoboda took first and second in the 200 breast, both earning personal bests. Peck placed herself on the all-time top performer's list in the fifth-place spot and a second-best freshmen time in Iowa State history.
Miller claimed her second gold of the night in the 200 IM, finishing in 2:03.27 while DeWitt secured second place with a season-best 2:04.52.
In the 3-meter dive Kate Mitchell secured third place with a score of 289.28 while Ally Blumenfeld followed in fourth with 282.53.
In the 1-meter dive, Maggie Bendell secured second place with a score of 281.93, achieving zone cuts. Mitchell, Abby Tollefson, and Blumenfeld also earned zone qualifying scores.
"It was an amazing meet for the Cyclones as we build and prepare for Big 12 Championships," Leach said.
