AMES, Iowa - No. 3 Iowa State steps away from its Big 12 dual schedule this weekend to host the Cyclone Open. The tournament will begin at 10 a.m. inside Hilton Coliseum and will run throughout the day.
Several NCAA Division I teams, in addition to Iowa State, are expected to send wrestlers to the Cyclone Open including Arizona State, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota State, Northern Illinois, Oklahoma State, Pittsburgh, South Dakota State and Wisconsin.

CARTER MAKING THE MOST OF OPPORTUNITY
With star senior 197-pound transfer Rocky Elam on a "pitch count"Â this season, CJ Carter has filled in the lineup admirably in Elam's absence. Carter has four dual appearances this season, and while he owns just a 1-3 record in those matches, nearly all of the results were within a takedown. Carter earned the best win of his career when he defeated three-time NCAA Qualifier Colton Hawks at Arizona State last week.
SEASON STORYLINES
- Iowa State is 6-1 on the season and 2-0 in Big 12 action. During the first half of the season, the Cyclones beat Iowa in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Dual for the first time since 2004 and won the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational for the second time in three seasons.
- All 10 Cyclone starters are ranked inside the top-15 in FloWrestling's individual rankings. Iowa State is ranked No. 4 in FloWrestling's tournament rankings and No. 3 in the NWCA Coaches' Poll dual rankings.
- Kevin Dresser's next dual victory will be his 100th as head coach of the Cyclones. He would be just the fourth head coach in program history to reach the milestone, joining Harold Nichols (454), Bobby Douglas (198) and Hugo Otopalik (159). ISU's next dual is Jan. 23 against Northern Colorado.
- Dresser has implored his squad to put bonus points on the board any chance they get. Not including open tournaments, Cyclone wrestlers have combined to earn bonus points in 61.6 percent of their wins this season (74-of-120). That's a bonus point in 43 percent of ISU's matches wrestled (74-of-172). Broken down, Cyclone wrestlers have combined for 10 pins, 35Â tech falls and 29Â major decisions.
- Iowa State has been aggressive from the neutral position, owning a 380-117 takedown advantage over its opponents this season (excluding open tournaments). Yonger Bastida leads the Cyclones with a team-best 60:1 takedown ratio.
