AMES, Iowa - Lindsey Herrin was 1-of-3 at the plate with two RBI to lead Iowa State as the Huskers downed ISU, 8-3.
Nebraska took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Kim Ogee homered to lead off the inning.
Iowa State answered back scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Julia Lindsey led off the inning with a double. Adi Blackmon singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch as Lindsey advanced to third. Erica Martinez walked to load the bases. Herrin singled to score Lindsey and Blackmon to give ISU a 2-1 lead.
The Cyclones expanded the lead scoring one run in the top of the third inning. Diana Rueter walked and advanced to second on a Lindsey sacrifce bunt. Rueter advanced to third on a Blackmon single and scored on an error by Husker shortstop Amanda Bucholz.
Nebraska battled back to take the lead scoring two runs in the top of the third inning. The Huskers added three more runs in the top of the fourth inning to give the NU a 6-3 lead. Nebraska expanded the lead scoring two runs in the top of the seventh to give the Huskeres a 8-3 lead.
Martinez (8-11) recorded the loss allowing five runs on five hits while fanning seven in four innings. Blackmon was 2-of-4 at the plate, while Lindsey, Martinez, Kim Rodgers and Kristin Shipley each contributed a hit.
The Cyclones (15-18 overall and 5-7 Big 12) return to action tomorrow as they play host to Western Illinois at the Southwest Athletic Complex. First pitch is slated for 4:30.
