PANTHERSVILLE, Ga. ? Kelly Wardein had two hits and Kim Rodgers scored a run in the fourth inning to break a scoreless tie as the Cyclones defeated Georgia State, 1-0, in Wednesday night softball action. With the win, Iowa State improves to 5-13 on the season. Freshman Alyssa Ransom was on the mound for ISU and picked up her fourth win of the year.
Junior Heather McLatchie hit her first double of the season and senior Julia Lindsey had a hit for her 10th of the season. Sophomore Cary Akins ad freshman Jessica Quade also added hits for the Cyclones.
Iowa State pushed their run across in the fourth inning when Wardein led off with a single hit to center field. Rodgers was then brought into pinch run and Quade moved her to second on a ground out to second base. With the Georgia State defense expecting a bunt, Rodgers took off for third base. But GSU pitcher Candace Jones' throw went into left field and Rodgers was sent home for the score.
