AMES, Iowa - Iowa State scored five fourth inning runs to defeat No. 22 Oklahoma, 5-2, and give Alyssa Ransom her third straight win against a ranked opponent.
The Cyclones (20-21, 4-7 Big 12), who have defeated three ranked opponents in the last week, reached the 20-win mark for the first time since 1999 with the victory.
The Cyclones trailed 1-0 going into the bottom of the fifth but got on the board with a bases loaded, two-run single down the left field line by Cary Akins. Stephanie Mosley then walked, to again load the bases, and Fallon Johnson delivered her fourth triple of the season to clear the bases and put Iowa State on top 5-1.
The Sooners (28-18-1, 4-10 Big 12) got a run back in the top of the sixth when Norelle Dickson singled off Ransom to cut the lead to 5-2. With runners still on first and second, Ransom was able to get Amber Spaulding to ground out to third baseman Kristy Olsen to end the inning and prevent further damage.
Ransom (10-11), who struck out six Sooner batters, got Spaulding to again ground out with runners on first and second in the seventh inning to pick up her fourth straight win.
Three Cyclones collected two hits in the win. Johnson was 2-for-4 with a career-high three RBI while Cary Akins went 2-for-2 with two runs batted in. Jessica Quade was the other Cyclone to record two hits, going 2-for-3 with her sixth double of the season.
Oklahoma was led by Dickson and Traci Dickenson, who each went 2-for-3 in the loss.
D.J. Mathis (10-6) allowed four runs on six hits in three and a third innings to get the loss.
The Cyclones and Sooners will play again Sunday at 11 a.m. ISU will honor its two seniors, Cary Akins and Kristen Karanzias, in a special ceremony following the game.
