AMES, Iowa- Diante Garrett recorded 20 points, his fourth 20-point effort of his career, to lead Iowa State to an 85-58 win over Southeast Missouri Monday night in Hilton Coliseum. Garrett was one of four players in double figures for the Cyclones, as Iowa State improves to 7-2 on the season.
Iowa State scored the first nine points of the second half to go up by 24 points while taking control of the game. Iowa State led by as many as 31 points in the second half.
Iowa State shot 58.6 percent from the field in the first half to help race out to its 15-point lead at the break. The Cyclones led by as many as 20 points in the first half and forced 11 first-half Redhawk turnovers. Garrett had 15 points and Melvin Ejim tallied 10 points in the opening stanza.
Ejim ended the game with his second career double-double (18 points/10 rebounds) and Scott Christopherson added 13 points. Christopherson was 1-for-1 from 3-point range, improving his consecutive game streak with a trey to 12 games.
Iowa State shot 52.5 percent from the field, its fourth game of the season making over half of its shots. The Cyclones forced a season-high 21 turnovers.
The Cyclones travel to Iowa City to face Iowa on Friday night (Dec. 10). Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
