STILLWATER, Okla. - 12th-ranked Oklahoma State scored three runs in the first inning en route to a 4-0 win over Iowa State Sunday afternoon in Big 12 Conference softball action. With the loss, Iowa State falls to 22-19 overall and 1-5 in Big 12 play.
The Cowgirls (36-7, 7-0) got to Iowa State pitcher Rachel Zabriskie early, scoring three runs on two hits to open the game.
Tamara Brown drove in a run and Megan Castle plated two with their first-inning singles as Oklahoma State took control early.
Erica Miller and Amanda Bradberry singled and doubled in the top of the second, but Oklahoma State hurler Kat Espinosa retired Carrie Monroe and Carleigh Berry to end the second inning threat.
Espinosa (15-3) kept the Cyclones off the board and OSU scored another run in the sixth inning on an error by Bradberry to make it 4-0.
Berry had her second hit of the game in the seventh inning, but Espinosa closed the door on any potential rally and sent the Cowgirls to their 13th-straight win.
Berry led the Cyclones, who finished with six hits, going 2-for-3.
Alysia Hamilton joined Brown and Castle with two hits for the Cowgirls.
Zabriskie (18-11) took the loss for the Cyclones, giving up four runs on seven hits. Zabriskie struck out a season-low one in the loss.
The Cyclones will be back on the field Tuesday at Northern Iowa. First pitch against the Panthers is slated for 4 p.m.
