Torrescano struck first for Iowa State, plating the first run of the game in the first at-bat by either team following an hour-long rain delay. Spendlove followed Torrescano's lead, hitting a triple two batters later and putting three runners across home plate.
Torrescano added to her three-hit night with a leadoff home run in the fifth. The San Diego native went three-for-four at the plate and scored two runs on top of her two RBI.
In the circle, Torrescano (4-2) threw four and a third innings in relief of
Taylor Smith, giving up three earned runs on eight hits, walking three and striking out none.
Iowa State got its first scoring opportunity in the top of the third with two outs when
Brittany Gomez, who had walked, advanced to third on a single from
Erica Miller before an hour-long rain delay temporarily halted the Iowa State threat.
Out of the delay, the offenses woke up as the Cyclones plated five runs and the Bulldogs three when the third inning resumed. Both teams scored all their runs with two outs.
At the plate as the teams retook the field, Torrescano singled to drive in Gomez for the first run of the contest. Still with two outs in the inning,
Sara Davison walked to load the bases and Spendlove smacked her first triple of the season, putting Iowa State on top, 4-0, before coming home on an error by Maria Sio, further extending the Cyclones' lead.
Fresno State put across its runs on RBI-hits from Stesha Brazil, Michelle Solomon and Paige Gumz. Solomon drove in another run with a single in the fifth inning.
Fresno State starter Jill Compton's struggles continued in the fifth as Torrescano continued her solid night at the plate with a leadoff home run.
Fresno State added a fourth run on a sac fly from Brenna Moss, cutting the Iowa State lead to 6-5 in the sixth and the Bulldogs completed the comeback in the seventh, loading the bases with one out and tying the score, 6-6, with an RBI-walk by Whitney Smith. Kelly MeGee ended the game with a walk-off single.
Taylor Langdon (6-1) earned the win with two innings of relief work. Langdon gave up two hits, no runs, no walks and had no strike outs.
The Cyclones will play two on Friday, slated to play No. 6 California at 11 a.m. CST with San Diego State at 1:15 p.m., or approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the previous game.
