AMES, Iowa-The Iowa State soccer team fell 3-0 to No. 16 West Virginia Friday night at the Cyclone Sports Complex. The Cyclones will return to action Friday, Oct. 24th against Kansas.
Turning Point of the Game
In the 50th minute, West Virginia's Ashley Lawrence found a wide-open Kate Schwindel inside the Cyclone box. Schwindel wasted no time firing a shot into the back of the Cyclone net giving her team a 1-0 edge that the Cyclones would not come back from.
Coach Said It
“We fought hard. It wasn't the prettiest, but we definitely showed that we were here to compete,” head coach Tony Minatta said. “The second half was unfortunate giving up that first goal. At the end of the day, they are the class of the Big 12 for a reason. If we aspire to get where they're at, we need to play with a lot more confidence. We're a young team and we're learning. We need to take away that if that's where we want to be that's where were going to have to get.”
Game Notes
*Senior goalkeeper Andrea Swanson recorded six saves. She now has 213 career saves.
*Iowa State is now 0-3 all-time against West Virginia.
