Cyclones Fall to USC

SOUTH BEND, Ind.- The Iowa State soccer team (1-2-0) fell 3-1 to the USC Trojans (2-1-0) Friday in a tightly contested game at Alumni Stadium in South Bend, Ind. Iowa State returns to Ames for the first home game of the season Sunday at 1 p.m. against Saint Louis.

Turning Point of the Game
In the 58^th minute USC's Katie Johnson took a pass from Kayla Mills inside the Iowa State box and fired a shot past Iowa State goalkeeper Andrea Swanson. The Cyclones had a few looks at the equalizer when trailing 2-1, but were unable to convert. A third goal by USC's Reilly Parker put the game out of reach for the Cyclones.

Cyclone Game Ball Goes to…
Koree Willer. The sophomore forward continued her solid season, scoring her second goal of the year in the third minute. The Cyclones jumped out of the gates when Willer took a nifty pass from fellow sophomore Adalie Schmidt and snuck it past the USC keeper.

Coach Said it
“I thought our effort was there,” head coach Tony Minatta said. “We worked really hard as a team and we fought for the full 90 minutes. The technical quality wasn't there. That was the difference in the two teams. When they got the ball they were purposeful with their passes.”

Game Notes
*Koree Willer recorded her second goal of the season and sixth goal of her career.She is now tied for most goals scored by a Cyclone this season.
*Goalkeeper Andrea Swanson recorded four saves. She now has 171 saves in her career.
*Adalie Schmidt recorded her first assist of the season.
