DENVER, Colo.- A late two-goal rally helped the Denver Pioneers (3-4-1) defeat the Iowa State Cyclones (5-3-0) 2-1 in Denver, Colorado on Sunday. Iowa State returns home Friday, Sept. 9 to play the Drake Bulldogs.
Turning Point of the Game
In the 85th minute Denver's Anna Willis gave the Pioneers life scoring the equalizer off of an assist from Randee Holman-Kelley. Denver used its new-found momentum to score the game-winner in the 86th minute, a goal by Makenzie Bothner. Iowa State was unable to find the back of the net before time expired.

Koree Willer. The sophomore scored a goal for the third straight game, this time a header off of a corner kick assist from Hayley Womack. Willer was able to find the ball in a group of players and head it into the back of the net.
Coach Said It
“I thought we took the field at the beginning and I wasn't sure if we were nervous or scared of the environment, but I didn't think we played all that well in the first 15-20 minutes,” head coach Tony Minatta said. “We got settled in and we started doing some decent stuff in the first half, but I felt like we didn't have the better of the play in the first half. We came out firing in the second half. Koree scored a great goal. Hayley Womack got in on two break aways that were inches away from scoring. If either one of those goes in, it may be a different result. I was really proud of the team the way we played in the second half. At the end of the day Denver is a great team, a tough place to play and we learned some lessons in the second half that we're going to learn from and not let happen again."
Game Notes
