AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State softball team (15-17, 0-3 Big 12) dropped the last game of its home series with No. 19 Baylor (31-7, 5-0 Big 12) on Sunday at the Cyclone Sports Complex by a score of 17-0.
Game One: Baylor 17, Iowa State 0
For the third consecutive game, the visiting Lady Bears were able to put their stamp on the game in the opening inning. With two outs, Linsey Hays came to the plate and hit a two-run homer to left center to give BU a 2-0 advantage before Cyclone starter Emma Hylen struck out Sarah Smith to end the top half.
Baylor added two more in the second inning on a two-RBI single by lead-off hitter Jessie Scroggins. Hylen and the Cyclone defense were then able to briefly quiet the BU bats with a scoreless third inning.
The lone ISU hit on the day came from senior Brittany Gomez in the bottom of the third on a chopper over the BU shortstop's head. The Cyclones were able to move Gomez around to third and load the bases on back-to-back walks by Cathlin Bingham and Aly Cappaert, but unable to bring any runs around to score.
The Lady Bears broke things open in the top of the fourth, scoring seven runs on five hits, including a bases-loaded double by Kyla Walker to bring three runs to the plate. Six more BU runs came across in the top of the fifth, including a three-run homer by Sydney Christensen, as the Cyclones fell 17-0.
