AMES, Iowa – Iowa State's Jasmine Staebler took down the school record in the women's 800-meter run Saturday afternoon on the finald ay of the Iowa State Classic. Her time of 2:03.08 took down the three-year old record of Ejiro Okoro and catapulted her into the top-10 of the country in the event.
The Cyclones' men's day was highlighted by strong performances in the men's 400-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles. Sophomore Eric Fogltanz led an ISU 1-2 in the 400, while Elijah Young guided a Cyclone 2-3 in the hurdles.
Staebler's record book-rewriting took place in an elite 800-meter run field that seven of the 13 top student-athletes in the half-mile coming into the weekend. Staebler kept herself near the back of the pack, but finished strong, running her final 300 in 47.75 to pass a pair of runners and cross the line in fourth place at 2:03.08. However, it was the time that counted as she knocked off Ejiro Okoro's school record of 2:03.91 set three years ago at the Iowa State Classic. At the time of publication, her mark has her ranked second in the Big 12 and ninth in the NCAA.
Iowa State's 400-meter dash squad had a fantastic day. The group was led by Eric Fogltanz, with the sophomore laying down a big finish to take first place overall in 46.82. He was followed by his teammate Roshon Roomes, who won his heat to finish second overall in 46.98. It could have been an ISU 1-2-3 as Jaymes Dennison marked his Harry Hoak Track debut with a 46.88 to win heat one, but he was later disqualified for a lane violation.
The Iowa State men's hurdlers showed impressive depth in the 60-meter hurdles competition. ISU qualified three to the final, with freshman Devon Alvarado surprising with an impressive 8.23. In the final, Elijah Young put up a personal best 8.07 to take second place, while Logan Schneider finished strong to take third in 8.11.

Iowa State will compete at the UCS Invitational next weekend in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Action will take place on Saturday.
