IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Iowa State soccer team (1-3, 0-0 Big 12) lost on Sunday afternoon to Minnesota (2-0-2, 0-0 Big Ten) in a neutral site match-up at UI Soccer Complex.
Iowa State's lone goal came off the foot of freshman Courtney Powell on a break-away in the 58th minute. It was the first career goal for the native of La Porte City, Iowa. However, the Gophers tallied five goals in the second half to pull away.

Turning Point of the Game
The Cyclones trailed 1-0 at the intermission, but had created some opportunities in the opening stanza before the Gophers broke things open early in the second half. April Bockin found Sydney Squires with a cross and Squires connected on a header to extend the lead to 2-0 at the 50:36 mark.
The goal started an offensive flurry for UM, including three more goals from Squires, as the Gophers put the score out of reach.

"In the second half we started slow," Minatta said. "We need to do a better job as coaches to get them prepared for these moments. We need to do a better job for them to make sure they're in a position so that doesn't happen. It was nice to see Courtney get that goal and get some confidence. That's going to help her moving forward. A lot of experience was gained this weekend by a lot of young players."
