10.11.2019 | Soccer
AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (3-10, 0-4 Big 12) fell 2-1 at Kansas State (3-9-2, 1-4 Big 12) on Friday night at Buser Family Park. Junior Courtney Powell scored her second goal in as many matches to give Iowa State a first-half lead, but the Wildcats netted two in the second stanza to rally past the Cyclones.
How It Happened…
The Cyclones nabbed momentum early on Powell's goal in the 29th minute. Freshman forward Kenady Adams flipped the field on a run down the left sideline into the Cyclone attacking third, before playing a ball for Kassi Ginther in the middle of the pitch. Ginther sent a pass over the K-State back line to find a streaking Powell, who buried the chance in the back of the net. It was Powell's team-leading third goal of the season, and gave the Cyclones a 1-0 advantage that they would maintain until intermission.
K-State's Brookelynn Entz dialed up the equalizer from 25 yards out on a bending shot into the left side of the goal in the 51st minute. The Wildcat junior then netted the game-winner 13 minutes later on a penalty kick after a foul was called on Iowa State inside the 18-yard box.
The Cyclone offense continued to threaten, but were unable to send the match to overtime with a tying goal.
