AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (3-13, 0-7 Big 12) dropped a 3-2 decision at Texas (10-6, 5-2 Big 12) on Friday at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The Cyclones collected goals from Tavin Hays (36') and Kenady Adams (90'), but were unable to rally following a pair of second-half Texas goals.
How It Happened…
The Longhorns took an early lead on a blistery day in Austin via Julia Grosso's eighth goal of the season. The UT forward maneuvered around Cyclone defenders on the dribble and connected on a goal from the top of the box in the 24th minute.
A promising start on offense paid dividends for the Cyclones just 12 minutes later. Sophomore Abigail Harbin dispossessed a Texas defender, feeding the ball to ISU forward Tavin Hays. Hays then played a give-and-go with freshman Claudia Najera. When Hays got back on the end of Najera's pass, she buried her chance in the back of the net to equalize at 1-1.
The Longhorns came out of the locker room on the attack, tallying goals from Mackenzie McFarland (65') and Haley Berg (79') to take a 3-1 advantage.
Iowa State refused to go away, however, and a free kick by Hannah Cade deflected off the right post and found Kenady Adams in the middle of the box. Adams buried the chance for her second goal of the season to cut the deficit to 3-2 with just under a minute to play. The Cyclones were unable to find the back again, as Texas came away victorious.
Cyclone Game Ball Goes To…
Tavin Hays. The junior captain tallied her first career goal and was outstanding in the attack for the Cyclones on Saturday. Hays nearly chalked up another goal in the second half when she intercepted a UT misplay in the attack third.

Iowa State will remain in the Lone Star State, traveling north to Waco, Texas to take on Baylor on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field. The game will be broadcast on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
