AUSTIN, Texas – Iowa State (17-12, 0-2 Big 12) dropped game two of its series at Texas (28-6, 2-0 Big 12) on Saturday at Red & Charline McCombs Field.
Kaylee Bosworth and Taylor Nearad led the way offensively for ISU, each going 2-for-3 with a double at the plate on the day.
Texas 11, Iowa State 0
The Cyclones got the start they were looking for in game two of the series. A day after being held hitless, the duo of Bosworth and Nearad each collected a double to open the top of the second inning. Nearad's shot down the left field line scored Bosworth from second to give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead.
Texas answered with a solo home run to right field off the bat of Kaitlyn Washington in the bottom of the third, tying the contest at 1-1.
The bottom of the fourth inning is where the game got away from the Cyclones, with Texas putting up five runs on six hits in the frame. Washington tallied a two-out RBI double down the right field line, followed by a two-run home run by Becca Alcozer, extending the UT lead to 6-1.
Shannon Mortimer pitched all 6.0 innings in the circle for Iowa State, giving up six runs on six hits in the first Big 12 start of her career.
