09.13.2019 | Soccer
ST. LOUIS – Iowa State (2-5) fell 1-0 to Saint Louis (4-3) in overtime on Friday night at SLU's Hermann Stadium. The Cyclones battled the Billikens valiantly for 92 minutes, but were undone by a golden goal from Hannah Friedrich in the first overtime session.
Turning Point of the Game
The Cyclones rolled into overtime with momentum after earning a number of scoring opportunities late in regulation, but Saint Louis was quick to flip the script. Less than two minutes into overtime, a turnover deep in the SLU attacking third found the feet of Friedrich. The SLU forward played a give and go to teammate Emily Groak, who then played it back to Friedrich, who put it away for a golden goal.
Cyclone Game Ball Goes to...
Taylor Bee. The sophomore defender played all 92 minutes for the Cyclones on Friday night, and was critical in keeping the Billiken attack at bay throughout regulation. Bee made a tremendous play to preserve the 0-0 tie in the 64th minute. SLU's Annabelle Copeland got a wide open look in front of goal off a deflection for what looked like a sure go-ahead goal, but Bee made a terrific effort to block the shot and keep the match scoreless.
On Deck
The Cyclones will cross the Mississippi River on a short journey to Edwardsville, Ill., where they will take on SIU-Edwardsville on Sunday at 2 p.m. The match will be streamed by ESPN+.
