AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State soccer team hosts 15th-ranked Memphis Thursday at the Cyclone Soccer Complex. This is just the second meeting all-time between the two and the first in Ames. The match will air on Big 12 Now on ESPN+, with kickoff set for 6 p.m.
KEY STORYLINES
-The Thursday match is the only one on the slate for the Cyclones this week, while Memphis will travel to Drake on Sunday for its second match in Iowa of the week. This weekend is the final non-conference matches of the year for the Tigers.
-Iowa State is coming off a 1-0 win over SIUE on Sunday. The Cyclones had a 22-2 advantage in shots in the victory. In the last two matches, Iowa State has outshot its opponents 48-4.
-Lauren McConnell scored the lone goal against SIUE on Sunday, as she became the first Cyclone to score multiple goals this season.
-Memphis ranks 18th in the nation in goals-against average at .321 and 18th in total goals scored with 18 in six matches.
-Elizabeth Moberg has allowed .367 goals against for the Tigers this year, ranking 32nd in the country and leading the American Athletic Conference.
-Junior Mira Emma has three assists on the season, ranking third in the Big 12 and 48th in the nation. She has recorded assists against Iowa, Drake and SIUE.
-Freshman Lauren McConnell is one of 13 true freshmen across all NCAA Division I schools that has multiple game-winning goals this season. McConnell scored the game-winner against UC Santa Barbara and SIUE.
-Senior Tavin Hays appeared in her 50th match as a Cyclone on Sunday against SIUE. Hays joins McKenna Schultz (70) and Taylor Bee (56) as active Cyclones that have appeared in 50 or more career matches.
-The Cyclones played their fourth-straight one-goal match on Sunday, defeating SIUE 1-0 at the Cyclone Soccer Complex.
-Freshman Lauren McConnell scored the game-winner in the second half off an assist from junior Mira Emma.
-The Cyclones dropped a 2-1 match against Drake Aug. 29. All three goals came in the first half.
-Iowa State had a 26-2 advantage in shots, including 13-2 in shots on goal.
-Freshman Morina Suter-Doerig scored her first goal of her career, as she became the fifth different Cyclone to score a goal this year. Four of the five that have found the back of the net have come from freshmen.
-The Cyclones dropped a 2-1 loss at Iowa in the first Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series meeting of the year Aug. 26 in Iowa City.
