AMES, Iowa - No. 4 Iowa State begins a February home stand with a top-20 matchup against No. 17 West Virginia Friday night. The Cyclones look to bounce back against the Mountaineers after having their seven-match dual win streak snapped last weekend against No. 5 Oklahoma State. Fans are encouraged to stay in their seats while ISU recognizes nine seniors following the dual.

MARQUEE MATCHUP - 165 POUNDS
Five of 10 bouts in Friday's matchup between ISU and WVU project to feature two ranked wrestlers, including top-10 battles at 141, 149 and 165 pounds, but all eyes will be on David Carr on his senior night. Carr, ranked No. 2 in the nation, gets a matchup against No. 8 Peyton Hall. The pair met twice last season with Carr winning both matches. Their second meeting occurred in the Big 12 Championship semifinals, where Carr needed a takedown with 27 seconds left to win, 3-1. Hall is a 2022 All-American and is 4-2 against ranked foes this season. Last week, Hall nearly defeated defending national champion Keegan O'Toole but fell just short, 8-7.
NOTABLE
- The Cyclones are back home for a month following a 1-1 road trip to Oklahoma. Iowa State defeated OU, 37-4, last Friday before it fell to Oklahoma State, 21-12, on Saturday. ISU's 37-4 victory over the Sooners marked largest win in Norman in program history.
- Iowa State is 38-12 in Big 12 duals under Kevin Dresser and 18-2 in the last three seasons.
- ISU is looking for its sixth consecutive win in the series against West Virginia. The Cyclones are 10-0 all-time against the Mountaineers in Ames.
- Casey Swiderski made his return to Iowa State's lineup last weekend after missing a month and a half due to injury. The sophomore picked up a pair of ranked victories over OU's No. 32 Willie McDougald and OSU's No. 17 Sammy Alvarez.
- MJ Gaitan is on a career-best seven match winning streak. He had a pair of ranked wins on the recent road trip over OU's No. 29 Tate Picklo and OSU's No. 25 Brayden Thompson.
- Yonger Bastida has been dominant so far this season. The Cuban is 17-0 with 10 bonus-point wins, eight top-20 victories and owns a 66:1 takedown ratio.Â
- David Carr has four wins over top-five opponents this season. The Cyclone returned to No. 2 in the InterMat rankings after an 8-1 decision against No. 4 Izzak Olejnik last Saturday.
- Iowa State wrestlers have pushed the pace and been aggressive on their feet this season. The Cyclones own a 400-122 takedown advantage over their opponents this season. OSU had 15 takedowns to ISU's eight on Saturday, which marked the first time this season the Cyclones were outperformed on their feet in a dual.
