The Iowa State Cyclones (3-2, 0-0 Big 12) will travel to Fort Worth on Friday, Jan. 17, for a 5 p.m. showdown against the Horned Frogs (1-1, 0-0 Big 12) in their first Big 12 matchup of the season. The Cyclones will then head to Denton on Saturday, Jan. 18, for a 1 p.m. contest against North Texas (3-1, 0-0 AAC).
THE OPPONENTS - TCU & North Texas
The Cyclones are gearing up for their fifth and sixth duals of the season.Â
This is the sixth ever matchup with TCU, with Iowa State leading the series 6-2-1. The Horned Frogs share an opponent on the season, previously competing with Arkansas, who the Cyclones faced at the Hawkeye Invite in November.
Iowa State has competed against the Mean Green only two times in history, leading 2-0. The only loss North Texas has faced is against New Mexico State in their first dual of the season, 138-104.Â
LAST TIME OUT - UNI
The Cyclones earned a successful senior day on Jan 11, beating the Panthers 180-116.
Corinne Guist had an outstanding meet for the Cyclones, earning wins in both the 1000 free and the 500 free.
Freshmen Grace Swoboda and Anja Peck delivered impressive performances for the Cyclones. Swoboda claimed victory in the 100 breast and contributed to the Cyclones' win in the 400 medley relay. Peck secured second-place finishes in both the 400 medley relay and the 100 breast while earning first place in the 200 breast.
Fifth-year Winter Craig achieved her fifth podium finish in the 200 fly and third in the 100 fly, winning both events during the meet.
Madi Dohrn secured her first victory of the season in the 200 back, with Emma Kuhn following closely in second and Fallon DeWitt in third.Â
In the diving events, rookie Maggie Bendell claimed victory in the 3-meter, followed by Ally Blumenfeld in second and Kate Mitchell in third. All three narrowly missed NCAA Zone Cut qualifiers.
Blumenfeld placed second in the 1-meter and Mitchell followed in third.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR - Breaststroke and Diving
The Cyclones have demonstrated remarkable strength in breaststroke events, sweeping the top three spots in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke during their meet against UNI.
Similarly, the diving team has excelled, earning top-three finishes in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events against UNI. Several scores came close to NCAA Zone qualifying marks, building momentum for the Cyclones in the diving events.
ON DECK - Kansas
Iowa State will travel to Lawrence, Kansas where they'll face the Jayhawks (2-3, 0-0 Big 12) in their second Big 12 matchup of the year on Feb 7, 2025 at 3 p.m.
