DENTON, Texas – Iowa State Swim and Dive faced off against the Mean Green in Denton on Saturday, with the Cyclones coming up short in a 165-135 defeat.
Head Coach Matt Leach expressed satisfaction with the Cyclones' performances against North Texas. "With back to back meetings, it can be tough to bring the same energy and atmosphere," Leach said. "I think we did a solid job of recognizing that and working together to give our best efforts today."
How it Happened
Iowa State's team of Emma Kuhn, Grace Swoboda, Carley Caughron, and Andie Quirke took second place in the 200 medley relay, finishing with a time of 1:47.30.
Madi Dohrn claimed second place in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:04.44, while Kuhn secured third with a time of 2:07.49.
Corinne Guist took gold in the 1000 free with a time of 10:32.68.
Freshman Swoboda captured first place in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:22.83, closely followed by Abbi Crum in second with a time of 2:22.87.
Quirke earned a second-place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.60.
Winter Craig secured second place in the 200 fly with a time of 2:05.81 and third place in the 100 fly with a time of 58.07.
The 400 IM was dominated by Mallory Miller, earning a first place finish and a time of 4:31.93.
In the 1-meter diving event, Abby Tollefson took second place and earned an additional NCAA Zone Cut qualifier with a score of 283.73. Kate Mitchell finished third with a score of 275.25, followed by Ally Blumenfeld in fourth (270.00), and Maggie Bendell (267.90), with all divers securing NCAA Zone Cut qualifying scores.
Mitchell placed second in the 3-meter with a score of 290.18 and another NCAA zone cut qualifying score. Bendell followed in fourth (278.03) with Blumenfeld in fifth (277.43).
Freshman Grace Marek broke her personal record in the 3-meter with a score of 267.75.
Leach emphasized improving for the Kansas dual. "Our depth kept us in the meet," Leach mentioned. "We will get back to work as we get closer to our next and final travel meet against Kansas."
