ORLANDO, Fla. – No. 24 Iowa State (18-5, 8-4 Big 12) fell in three at UCF (15-9, 6-7 Big 12) Saturday afternoon by set scores of 25-20, 25-20, 25-21. The Knights are just the second opponent to sweep the Cyclones this season.
Maya Duckworth led the Cyclones with an errorless 10 kills at .370, her second-straight match in double figures and 10th this season. Duckworth also had five digs and two blocks.
Rachel Van Gorp totaled 22 digs through the three sets, her seventh match this season with 20-plus and ninth of her career. Van Gorp has now tallied double digit digs in 28-straight matches.
SET ONE
UCF took the lead of 15-11 at the media timeout, and Iowa State would call its first timeout as the Knights remained ahead at 18-12. ISU pulled within four after a Tierney Jackson kill but UCF took a long rally next. The Knights kept with the lead to win the first 25-20, hitting over .300.
SET TWO
Duckworth found the back corner of the court for her fifth kill without an error to make it 2-0. ISU held the lead until UCF flipped it at 9-8, and the Knights kept their run alive stretching it to seven to go up 13-8. Iowa State took three straight capped on a Nayeli Ti'a ace to come within a pair (13-11), but the home team went on to make it 19-14 as ISU called a timeout. Following a kill by Reagan Hanfelt and block by Duckworth and Amiree Hendricks-Walker Iowa State cut the deficit to two (22-20), but UCF went on to take the second by an identical set score to the first.
SET THREE
ISU took an early timeout after UCF jumped out to an advantage of 6-2, hitting their first five kills on as many attempts. Duckworth put down her eighth kill at .400 hitting as the Cyclones cut the lead to two at 9-7, but the Knights held the momentum going up 14-8 as ISU called the timeout. UCF again won the race to 20 as ISU held 13, but the Cyclones followed taking the next three points. Iowa State would take its final timeout at 23-17, and UCF continued on to find match point at 24-19. ISU fought it off three times, but UCF sealed the sweep 24-21.

Iowa State heads to Houston next for a Thursday, Nov. 13 match, and will then return home Saturday, Nov. 15 to host No. 16 TCU.
