AMES, Iowa – Alea Goolsby has been named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. It is the first conference award in the true freshman's young career.
The accolade comes after leading the Cyclones with 49 kills at 3.77 per set as ISU went 3-0 last week with wins at Iowa, vs. Eastern Illinois and at Illinois. The Olathe, Kan. native added 29 digs, four blocks, two assists and an ace to her final week stat line.

The rookie had the first two double-doubles of her career on two Big Ten opponent's home courts. At Iowa, Goolsby delivered 17 kills and 11 digs, while putting up three blocks. The Cyclones continued their road trip over to Champaign, with the outside hitter putting down a remarkable 19 kills at .302 hitting to go along with 11 digs at Illinois.
Against Eastern Illinois, Goolsby had 13 kills at an efficiency of .370 and seven digs. Through the three matches, Goolsby accounted for 52.0 Cyclone points.
Goolsby extends her double-figure kill streak to four matches, and totals seven 10-plus kill matches this season. She leads the Cyclones with 137 kills, while as a team Iowa State ranks fourth nationally averaging 14.79 kills per set.
Goolsby and the Cyclones are back in action this week traveling to No. 23 Utah Thursday and No. 14 BYU Saturday to open Big 12 play.
