AMES, Iowa – For the ninth time in school history, and the fourth time under Coach Pinkerton, Iowa State (30-21, 8-13 Big 12) hit the 30-win mark, taking two over St. Thomas (32-16, 10-4 Summit).
Iowa State overcame a four-run deficit to take Tuesday's game one, winning 6-5. Following a four-run first by the Tommies, ISU plated two in the first, third and sixth to complete the comeback.
ISU started game two a bit differently, taking a 5-0 lead in the first on its way to an 11-8 win to sweep the afternoon contests. The Cyclones notched 14 hits, tying the second-most in a game this season, in the win.
Iowa State 6, St. Thomas 5
After falling behind by four in the first frame, Iowa State slowly chipped away, eventually taking its first lead of the contest in the bottom of the sixth and holding off a seventh-inning rally to earn a doubleheader-opening win.
Jessie Clemons led all players with three hits, also drawing a walk, as she reached base in all plate appearances. Karlee Ford had a game-high four RBI on a pair of knocks, and Tatum Johnson also chipped in two hits.
Jaiden Ralston (4-6) got the win in relief for the Cyclones, as the senior handled five innings, allowing just one run on three hits. Lauren Schurman (3) picked up the save, handling the last inning and striking out a pair.
Avery Wukawitz stood out for UST in the opener, notching both a double and a homer, driving in one run and scoring two others. Abbi Stierlen also had two knocks, tying Wukawitz for the team lead. Ella Cook (13-8) took the loss in the circle, walking seven.
How it Happened
Two batters in, St. Thomas found itself with a pair in scoring position. A sac fly later, and the Tommies were on the board. An RBI single from Stierlen extended the lead before a two-RBI single from Grace Nosan, sister of ISU's Isabelle Nosan, made it 4-0.
With two outs and runners on first and second, Kadence Shepherd drove in ISU's first run in the bottom of the first inning. A second consecutive single, this time of Karlee Ford, drove in a second run, halving the Tommie lead.
Following a scoreless second, ISU plated two more in the third to tie things up. With runners on first and second, Ford doubled into right field to score a pair and tie the score at four apiece.
No runs would cross in the fourth or fifth inning, but ISU eventually worked its way to a lead in the sixth. Back-to-back singles from Clemons and Johnson opened the frame before a Reagan Bartholomew walk loaded the bases. With one out, Shepherd drove in a run on a fielder's choice before a Ford sac fly scored a sixth to make a two-run cushion.
The Tommies tried to mount a seventh-inning rally with a solo shot to lead things off, but Schurman entered to shut things down and push ISU to its 29th win.

Iowa State 11, St. Thomas 8
The Cyclones flipped the script in game two, kicking things off with an explosive inning of their own to take an early 5-0 lead. ISU scored in five of its six innings with plate appearances as it secured win number 30 with a Tuesday sweep.
Clemons again led all Cyclones with three hits, totaling six on the day, picking up double number 21 on the season in the process. Both Reagan Bartholomew and Sydney Malott had three RBI, with Malott matching Clemons for a team-high three hits.
In a reverse of game one, Lauren Schurman (16-7) got the win in relief for the Cyclones, handling four frames of action. Jaiden Ralston (3) picked up her tenth career save in the win, setting the ISU career record.
Laken Lienhard paced UST with three this, scoring two runs, while Wukawitz was again a standout with three RBI. Matching Wukawitz's three RBI was Ella Cook who had three of her own on one hit.
How it Happened
After a bases-loaded sacrifice fly from Ford put ISU on the board, a three-run homer from Malott and a solo blast from Hayleigh Oliver pushed the Cyclone lead to 5-0.
The Tommies struck back in the top of the second, as Wukawitz drove in one on a double and Cooke drove in a pair on a single to make it 5-3.
With two on and one out in the bottom of the frame, Bartholomew doubled into right to score a sixth run and extend the ISU advantage to three.
Neither side scored in the third, but UST knotted things up in the fourth. Wukawitz again drove in a run on a double before sacrifice flies from both Cassidy Carby and Cook tied things up at six-all.
ISU snatched the lead right back in the bottom of the inning, as McKenna Andrews led off with a double. Following Andrews was Clemons, who singled to drive Andrews in and push the Cyclones to a one-run lead.
Each side scored one in the fifth before ISU added three runs of insurance in the sixth, thanks in large part to a two-run bomb from Bartholomew.
Trailing 11-7 at the top of the seventh, UST again tried to spark a rally with a leadoff home run, but that was it for the Tommies, as they fell to Iowa State, 11-8.
