AMES, Iowa - Iowa State softball has added four games in Washington D.C. against Quinnipiac, Howard and Coppin State. The Cyclones were originally scheduled to play in the Troy Cox Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M. before being forced to withdraw from the tournament due to travel complications.
ISU will open the slate of four games Sunday against Quinnipiac at 9 a.m. (CT).Â

Key Storylines
- Iowa State is coming off a 4-1 weekend at the Doc Halverson UNI-Dome Classic with wins over Omaha, Nebraska, South Dakota State and Northern Iowa. The Cyclones' lone loss came at the hands of in-state foe Drake.
- Iowa State is receiving votes in both the NFCA and USA Softball polls this week.
- Sophomore pitcher Saya Swain broke Iowa State's single-game record with 17 strikeouts in the win over UNI. Nationally, it is tied for the second-most strikeouts in a game this season.
- The Cyclones averaged 7.2 runs per game on Opening Weekend. ISU was aided by two grand slams during Saturday's doubleheader, one by Mikayla Ramos (vs. Nebraska) and the other from Alesia Ranches (vs. SDSU).
- Leadoff batter Carli Spelhaug reached base at a .667 clip last weekend, the 18th-best mark in the country. She is 31-for-31 on stolen base attempts in her career, just one shy of joining Iowa State's all-time top 10.
- Iowa State's 13 doubles this season rank eighth in the country. The Cyclones are averaging 2.60 doubles per game.
- Head coach Jamie Pinkerton is in his fifth season at the helm of the ISU softball program. Pinkerton has led Iowa State to its two highest RPI finishes in program history (No. 48 in 2019, No. 34 in 2021).
- Iowa State is in the midst of a 36-game road trip to begin the season. The Cyclones won't play a home game until April 6 against UNI. After opening the year indoors in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Â ISU will play five games in New Mexico, 15 games in California, five games in Arizona, three games in Utah and three games in Texas.
- Iowa State already owns two wins over 2021 regional teams in South Dakota State and UNI.
