LOUISVILLE, Ky. ? The Iowa State softball team dropped games to both Tennessee-Martin and Louisville Saturday at Louisville's Cardinal Stadium. It was the first day of the Courtyard Marriott East Classic, which is hosted by the University of Louisville. In the first game of the day, Iowa State lost to Tennessee-Martin, 5-4, in extra innings, and fell to Louisville, 2-1, in Saturday's afternoon game. With the losses, ISU's record falls to 2-9.
Against Tennessee-Martin, Iowa State fell behind 4-0 before scoring four runs late in the game to tie the game and force the game into extra innings. Tennessee-Martin scored the winning run late in the eighth inning to win the game, 5-4.
Against Louisville, the game was scoreless until Iowa State scored a run in the third inning. The Cyclones held the 1-0 lead until the Cardinals scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the 2-1 lead. Iowa State tried to come back in the top of the seventh but managed just one hit and left one runner on base and the game ended with a 2-1 Louisville win. The Cyclones had four hits and zero errors compared to Louisville's seven hits and zero errors. Junior Heather McLatchie had two hits and senior Kelly Wardein and freshman Ashley Killeen had a hit each. Sophomore Kristen Karanzias and freshman Alyssa Ransom were on the mound for the Cyclones and combined for three strikeouts and four walks.
Iowa State has one more game in the Courtyard Marriott East Classic. They will take on Kent State on Sunday, starting at 10 a.m.
